From the Greek Ευρυδικη (Eurydike) which meant "wide justice", derived from ευρυς (eurys) "wide" and δικη (dike) "justice". In Greek myth she was the wife of Orpheus. Her husband tried to rescue her from Hades, but he failed when he disobeyed the condition that he not look back upon her on their way out. Eurydice originates in Greek language and means "broad fairness". Eurydice was the name of several characters in Greek mythology, the most famous one probably being the daughter of Apollo, the god of light, an oak nymph and wife of Orpheus. Additionally, the name used to be very popular within royalty as well. Nowadays, it does not appear very frequently, especially not in the United States.
