Ciar"s people lived in pre-Gaelic times in the region which is now known as County Kerry in Ireland. Ultimately, Ciar means "black". Kerry can be used as both feminine and masculine given names, currently it is more popular for boys. It functions as a surname as well, the famous bearer being the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts John Kerry.
