- Pandora Meaning
- Means "all gifts", derived from a combination of Greek παν (pan) "all" and δωρον (doron) "gift". In Greek mythology Pandora was the first mortal woman. Zeus gave her a jar containing all of the troubles and ills that mankind now knows, and told her not to open it. Unfortunately her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it, unleashing the evil spirits into the world. Pandora originates in Greek language and means "all-gifted". In Greek mythology, she was the first woman on Earth, created by different gods and getting a gift from each of them to her jar which she was not supposed to open. Out of simple curiosity, Pandora opened the jar and let all the evils of mankind loose. The expression of "Pandora"s box" instead of a "jar" prevailed until present day due to a wrong translation in the 16th century. These days, opening Pandora"s box means to release something evil that cannot be undone.
